Welcome to BPW Africa Region

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the BPW Africa site as the new Regional Coordinator for Africa in this triennium 2011-2014.
The new triennial focus “Empowered Women Leading Business” could not have come at a better time for Africa.  It is a clarion call for business and professional women in Africa to take up the mandate to all the corners of Africa and down to the grassroots.

Already the action has begun in Africa. South Africa has belled the cat with the successful launch of the United Nations Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) in Johannesburg in July this year. Fifty-nine (59) Chief Executive Officers from various corporate businesses as well as state organs signed the CEO Statement of Support for the WEPs, a statement that is expected to add value to gender streamlining and emancipation in South Africa. 

BPW Nigeria is planning its national conference/annual general meeting for November with one of the highpoints of the programme being a business seminar. Topics include business ethics, basic finance for non-finance women business owners, and growth strategies for businesses.

Egypt is also planning an African Congress for Women Entrepreneurs to be hosted by BPW Egypt, the Egyptian Business Women Association and African Alliance for Women Empowerment in the first quarter of 2012.   

With all these activities in place and many more at different planning stages in all the Affiliate Federations and Clubs across Africa, the region is poised for breakthrough for her womenfolk. It is indeed an exciting time to start the triennium as the International President Freda Miriklis aptly puts it.

C’est un réel plaisir de vous accueillir dans notre site des Business and Professional Women (BPW) Afrique en ma qualité de Coordonnatrice régionale pour l'Afrique durant le mandat 2011-2014.

Le thème triennal "Renforcement des capacités des femmes en affaires" ne pouvait pas tomber à un meilleur moment pour l'Afrique. Il s'agit d'un appel adressé aux femmes d’affaires et professionnelles africaines pour relever les défis dans tous les coins de l'Afrique jusqu’à la base.

Déjà, l'action a commencé en Afrique. Les BPW Afrique du Sud ont réussi le lancement des Principes des Nations Unies sur l'autonomisation des femmes (Women Empowerment Principles ou WEPs) à Johannesburg en juillet 2011. 59 chefs d’entreprises ainsi que les organes d'Etat ont signé la Déclaration de soutien du WEPs des Nations Unies, une déclaration qui devrait donner une plus-value à l’égalité des sexes et l'émancipation des femmes en Afrique du Sud.

Les BPW Nigeria tiennentt leur conférence nationale/assemblée générale annuelle en novembre 2011, dont l'un des moments forts du programme est la tenue d’un séminaire d'entreprise; les sujets portent sur l'éthique des affaires, la finance de base comme solution au manque de financement des femmes chefs d'entreprises et des stratégies de croissance pour les entreprises.

Les BPW Egypte organisent dans le premier trimestre de 2012 un Congrès africain pour les femmes chefs d’entreprises sous la bonne auspice des femmes d'affaires égyptiennes et l'Alliance africaine pour l'autonomisation des femmes.

Avec toutes ces activités annoncées et bien d'autres, à différents stades de planification, au niveau de toutes les fédérations et des clubs affiliés africains, la région est prête à une percée pour ses femmes. C’est en effet un moment passionnant pour commencer le triennat comme le dit avec force la Présidente du BPW international Freda Miriklis.
