Dear Friends,

We would like to thank you all for your invaluable feedback and comments on the development of the Knowledge Gateway for Women’s Economic Empowerment over the past few months. I am pleased to inform you that the preview version of the Knowledge Gateway for Women’s Economic Empowerment is now live at www.empowerwomen.org. The full version of the Knowledge Gateway will be launched in September during the United Nations General Assembly.

The preview version consists of a Knowledge Network and a Knowledge Library, allowing for registration and uploading of resources. The Knowledge Gateway also features live Tweets and global news about women’s economic empowerment. The Knowledge Circles, Learning Center and a variety of other features will become functional starting end September. The platform will be translated into French and Spanish after September, as well as to Arabic, Chinese and Russian later in the year.

I am writing to encourage you to contribute to this preview version of the Knowledge Gateway through:

  • Register and complete your personal profile at www.empowerwomen.org to enhance the visibility of your organization and your work on women’s economic empowerment.
  • Contribute resources on women’s economic empowerment to the Knowledge Library (including stories of women leaders and role models). This is a great opportunity for all of us to demonstrate our leadership on women’s economic empowerment at all levels.
  • Submit to knowledge.gateway@unwomen.org suggestions for e-discussions (Knowledge Circles) and e-training (Learning Center) that would be helpful for women entrepreneurs, women workers and women farmers. Such topics could include any of your major international, regional or national issues or events related to women’s economic empowerment, and could also be in the form of capacity-building webinars. Please also suggest experts who could lead these discussions (independent experts or experts from your organization). On the basis of your suggestions, we will develop a schedule of activities around women’s economic empowerment issues that will be kicked off at the global launch in September.
  • You will see that the Gateway has a twitter feed which you can also access and follow through Twitter at@Empower_Women

We are hoping to secure your early engagement, support and leadership in championing the use of this innovative knowledge sharing and partnership platform for women’s economic empowerment so when the platform goes live in September we have a range of excellent content already on the site. Your support will ensure that women’s economic empowerment remains strongly on the development agenda over the years to come.

Thanks and warm wishes,

Carolyn
