Cérémonie des bougies au Bénin: Les club BPW ont commémoré l'événement
Les trois clubs de la Fédération Internationale des Femmes d’Affaires et Professionnelles (BPW) existant au Bénin ont commémoré, le samedi 03 février 2024, la cérémonie des bougies. Au terme de cette cérémonie, des œuvres caritatives au profit de certaines couches vulnérables de la société béninoise sont annoncées.
La cérémonie des bougies est une tradition qui réunit chaque début d’année les membres de la Fédération Internationale des Femmes d’Affaires et Professionnelles (BPW) afin de se présenter des vœux du nouvel an. Instituée par la première présidente internationale, Dr Lena Madesin Philips des États-Unis, cette cérémonie est conjointement célébrée par les trois clubs BPW du Bénin. Notamment : BPW Cotonou, BPW Calavi et BPW Akpakpa.
« En allumant les bougies, nous nous souvenons les unes des autres ; aussi bien celles qui ont fondé la fédération internationale, les membres des six pays qui ont créé BPW, ainsi que les fédérations (…) Nous récitons après la prière internationale », a expliqué Mme Huguette Akplogan Dossa, présidente du club BPW Calavi.
BPW International a été créée par six pays que sont la France, l’Autriche, le Canada, l’Italie, le Royaume Uni et les États-Unis d’Amérique.
BPW est une organisation internationale regroupant plusieurs clubs et fédérations dans le monde entier. Au cours de cette cérémonie traditionnelle, six grandes bougies représentant les six pays initiateurs de la Fédération sont allumées, suivies d’une prière internationale récitée qui prend en compte les qualités et les valeurs que doit avoir une femme.
À l’occasion de la rencontre du samedi 3 février, la past president du Club BPW Cotonou, Reine Loupeda-Sagbohan, a rappelé les projets en perspective. « Le 26 août prochain, BPW International va commémorer sa 94e année d’existence. Les 3 clubs vont organiser une activité conjointe dans ce cadre. En mai 2024, nous allons fêter les 20 ans du Club du Bénin. Donc, nous nous y activons», a-t-elle précisé. À l’en croire, cet anniversaire sera mis sous le sceau d’une activité caritative au profit des amblyopes aveugles de Sègbèya.
En effet le club BPW Bénin nourrit un projet de construction de dortoir. À cet effet et dans le cadre de la commémoration de leur anniversaire, les trois clubs envisagent « une soirée de gala de levée de fonds pour finir les travaux déjà entamés ».

On Saturday February 03, 2024, the three clubs of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW) in Benin commemorated the candle ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, a number of charities were announced to benefit vulnerable sections of Beninese society.
The Candlelight Ceremony is a tradition that brings together members of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW) at the start of each year to extend New Year's greetings. Instituted by the first international president, Dr. Lena Madesin Philips of the United States, this ceremony is jointly celebrated by the three BPW clubs in Benin. These are: BPW Cotonou, BPW Calavi and BPW Akpakpa.
"As we light the candles, we remember each other; those who founded the international federation, the members of the six countries that created BPW, as well as the federations (...) Afterwards, we recite the international prayer," explained Mme Huguette Akplogan Dossa, president of the BPW Calavi club.
BPW International was created by six countries: France, Austria, Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
BPW is an international organization of clubs and federations from all over the world. During this traditional ceremony, six large candles representing the six founding countries of the Federation are lit, followed by an international prayer reciting the qualities and values a woman should have.
On the occasion of the meeting on Saturday February 3, the past president of Club BPW Cotonou, Reine Loupeda-Sagbohan, recalled the projects in prospect. "On August 26, BPW International will commemorate its 94th year of existence. The 3 clubs will be organizing a joint activity to mark the occasion. In May 2024, we'll be celebrating the Club du Bénin's 20th anniversary. So we're working hard on that," she explains. According to her, this anniversary will be marked by a charity event to benefit the blind amblyopes of Sègbèya.
In fact, the BPW Benin club has a project to build a dormitory. To this end, and as part of the commemoration of their anniversary, the three clubs are planning "a fund-raising gala evening to finish the work already started".
