As President of BPW International, I reflect on the significance of the 69th
Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) and the
progress made in advancing gender equality on the global stage.
This year’s session was particularly important as it marked the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, providing a crucial opportunity to assess
achievements and address the remaining gaps.
CSW69 reaffirmed the urgency of accelerating gender equality and women’s
empowerment worldwide. Among the key outcomes were:
• Renewed Commitment to Economic Empowerment – The
discussions reinforced the need for policies that ensure equal
pay, access to capital, and support for women entrepreneurs. BPW
International remains dedicated to advocating for these measures at all levels.
• Strengthening Women's Leadership and Representation –
Governments and organizations recognized the necessity of
increasing women’s participation in decision-making roles across politics, business, and society. BPW International will continue developing programs
that empower women to lead.
• Addressing Gender-Based Violence and Discrimination –
CSW69 highlighted the importance of stronger legal protections
and accountability measures to combat violence against women. We
must ensure these commitments translate into concrete action.
• Digital Inclusion and the Future of Work – The session
emphasized bridging the digital divide and equipping women with
the skills needed for the evolving job market. BPW International will enhance its focus on capacity-building initiatives to prepare women for the
future.
At BPW International, we firmly believe in the power of collaboration and
advocacy to drive systemic change. Our participation at CSW69
allowed us to amplify women’s voices, contribute to high-level discussions, and influence international policies that impact economic empowerment,
leadership, and equal opportunities.
While CSW69 marked progress, there is still much work ahead. I encourage all
BPW members and partners to remain engaged—whether through policy
advocacy, community initiatives, or leadership development.
Together, we must continue shaping a future where every woman and girl can thrive, lead, and innovate.
